2011-2012 Season Begins the Week of Oct 17!

As a reminder, dance classes will begin next week, October 17 & 18! I hope your children are excited and ready for another fun and exciting dance season!

Important Reminders & Notes

Students should wait patiently in the school hallway until the door to the stage is opened and it is time for their class.
Parents, guardians and siblings who wish to remain on-site may wait quietly in the hallway or cafeteria while their dancer is in class. Children should not run or play unsupervised in the school.
Parking is available in the front circle drive and the west parking lot. Please only park in valid parking spots and do not block the reserved spaces for buses, etc.
Classes will be held at your regular class times the week of Halloween. Dancers may wear their Halloween costumes to class that week.
New for 2011 - Students who practice their routines at home each week will be rewarded with a small treat at the end of the session. Additional information and a practice grid will be sent home with students next week to help them keep track of their practices. Please help your child set aside time to practice at home.

2011-2012 Schedule

See below for a summary of the IGNITE! schedule for 2011-2012. Please note that some dates are still tentative and subject to change. Due to the date of recital, a two-week pre-recital mini-session has been added to the schedule after our 2^nd 8-week session to help students prepare for our final performance. Tuition for the pre-recital mini-session will be $16.25 for 30-minute classes and $19.50 for 1-hour classes, which was prorated at the regular 8-week session rates. As a reminder, session tuition is due the first week of each session.

Exciting Changes for the Upcoming 2011-2012 Season!

Congratulations to all my dancers for a job well-done at our 2^nd annual recital on Sunday! I saw lots of big smiles, and everyone had so much fun! As our year draws to a close, I wanted to provide you with some exciting updates for the upcoming 2011-2012 dance season! This information will also be distributed to dancers in class this week.

New Location!

IGNITE! is moving to a new location! I’m pleased to announce that my request to rent the old stage at Heartland Community School for dance classes next season was approved! This will be a more convenient location that includes additional paved parking, plus a larger space for dancing!

New Schedule!

A new schedule will also be introduced during the upcoming 2011-2012 season! The past two years, IGNITE! has followed a “traditional” dance schedule, where students have attended weekly classes for 8 months out of the year. For the upcoming season, our schedule will be broken out into smaller “mini-sessions!” During each mini-session, students will attend weekly classes for approximately 6 to 8 weeks, with a short break between each session.

Currently, I anticipate that our 2011-2012 season will include two mini-sessions, along with a recital in early spring. The actual 2011-2012 IGNITE! schedule will be set in August after Heartland’s school calendar has been finalized. Depending on the date of our recital, additional practices may also be necessary leading up to our recital performance.

These scheduling changes mean that we’ll have a shorter dance season in 2011-2012, which I feel will be a better fit for busy families. It will also provide dancers with a longer break over the Christmas holidays. In addition, a shorter season will allow dance classes to be offered at a more affordable cost, and I hope these changes will provide more children with the opportunity to experience the art of dance.

So… what’s not changing? Students will still get to wear sparkly costumes, learn exciting routines, and work on coordination and flexibility. The same types of classes in creative movement, ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, and cheer will continue to be offered for ages three and up. Dancers will still have opportunities to perform at various local events and an annual recital. And of course, we’re still going to have lots of FUN! Spread the word about our exciting 2011-2012 changes, and registration forms will be available in early May! Discounted registration fees will be offered to all new and returning students who enroll by May 31, 2011.

See below for some important information regarding our upcoming 2011 recital. This information was also distributed in class to all dancers this week, but I wanted to follow up with an email as well. Lessons @ Theater

Lessons the weeks of April 4 and 11 will be held at the Heartland Community School theater to help children adjust to the stage. Because of other school activities scheduled in the theater those weeks, some of the classes will be having lessons at a different time than usual. Lessons will resume at the studio at your regular class time the week of April 18. See below for the schedule:

Monday, April 4 and 11 Tuesday, April 5 and 12
5:00-5:30 pm: Pre-School (Monday 4:00) 5:00-6:00 pm: Pre-K/K (Tuesday 5:00)
5:30-6:30 pm: 1st/2nd Grade (Monday 5:30) 6:00-7:00 pm: Ballet (Tuesday 4:00)
6:30-7:30 pm: 4th/5th Grade (Monday 6:30) 7:00-8:00 pm: 3rd Grade (Monday 4:30)
7:30-7:30 pm: 7th Grade (Monday 7:30)

Rehearsal & Recital

A full dress rehearsal will be held on Saturday, April 16 from 8:45 am - 11:00 am at the Heartland Community School theater. Recital will be held on Sunday, April 17 at 2:00 pm. More detailed information about rehearsal and recital will be distributed at a later date.

Recital Volunteers

As you know, it takes many volunteers to put on a successful performance. Recital volunteers are needed in many different areas such as supervising backstage, lining up dancers, collecting admissions, running lights, etc. Come share the recital experience with your child and enjoy watching her performances at an up-close view from the stage! For those willing to help, please sign up on the bright orange sign-up sheet that will be posted at the theater during classes, or contact Kristen. Many thanks in advance for your support!

Recital T-Shirts

New for 2011! Recital t-shirts with our 2011 "Let's Go to the Movies" logo will be available for purchase prior to recital. The back of the t-shirt will also include an alphabetical listing of the names of all students. T-shirts will be $12 each. Click here to download an order form. A sample t-shirt will be displayed at the studio, as well as a few blank shirts you can try on for sizing. You’re welcome to purchase extra shirts for siblings, friends (or yourself!) T-shirt order forms and payment must be returned to Kristen by next Tuesday, April 5.

Recital Tights

Are your dancer’s recital tights looking a little ragged after all our various performances this year? If you’d like to order a new pair of tights for recital, please let me know by next Tuesday, April 5. Tights are $8.56/pair. I will order tights in the same footed style/color/size you originally ordered for your child, unless you indicate otherwise. You are also welcome to order extra tights or any other items from our shoe and dancewear collection.

Recital DVDs

Once again, our recital will be recorded by a professional videographer, which will allow you to relax and enjoy the show without the hassles of running a video camera. Our 2011 recital will be recorded by TE Productions. DVDs are a great way to preserve memories and celebrate your dancer's hard work and accomplishments! DVDs are $30 each. Advance Ticket Sales

Recital admission for ages six to adult is $3.00. All dancers and any children five and under are admitted free. As an added convenience, you may pre-purchase recital tickets through Kristen at any time. This eliminates the need to pay the day of the show, and it’s a nice way to purchase tickets ahead of time for special guests, family, grandparents, etc. If you prefer, you can still pay admission at the door the day of the show. Note that all seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the doors will open at 1:00 pm on April 17.

Save the Date! IGNITE! Dance Photos: January 15, 2011

Save the date! Dance photos with Cat's Cradle Photography have been scheduled for Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Dancers are not required to purchase photos; however, please make plans for your child to attend so that the group photo includes all dancers.

Cat's Cradle offers a variety of affordable portrait packages and a la carte items. All packages include both group and individual photos.

More details including class photo time slots will be distributed at a later date.

December 11, 2010 (Saturday): Heartland vs. Hampton Basketball Game

7:30 pm @ Heartland Community School New Gym
Students will be performing routines during halftime of the boys' game.
A dress rehearsal will be held for all groups on December 11 at the Heartland new gym. Rehearsal time is TBD.

February 26, 2011 (Saturday): Henderson Home Show
9:00 am-2:00 pm @ Heartland Community School New Gym. Actual performance time is TBD.
Students will be performing in the afternoon during the Henderson Home Show.

March 20, 2011 (Sunday): Henderson Care Center Nursing Home
2:00 pm @ Henderson Care Center
Students will be performing for residents of the Henderson Care Center.

April 17, 2010 (Sunday): Annual Spring Recital- Let's Go to the Movies!
2:00-3:00 pm @ Heartland Community School Theater
Students will be performing a variety of routines to music hits from popular movies over the decades.
A dress rehearsal will be held for all groups on April 16 (Saturday) from 8:45 am - 11:00 am.

2010/2011 Open House: September 11, 2010

IGNITE! will hold its 2010/2011 Open House on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Dancers will have the opportunity to check out the studio and be sized for their recital costumes.

As an added convenience, this year students will also have the opportunity to order both shoes and dancewear through the studio. Shoe sizing kits will be available, and dancers can also preview the dance attire, including leotards, skirts, pants, tights, and more! At the open house, students will be required to pay the full balance of their shoe/dancewear order and a $25 costume deposit. We will be ordering costumes immediately to ensure they arrive prior to our first performance, and the remaining costume balance will be due when the costumes arrive. Monthly tuition is due the first Monday of each month. For your convenience, tuition can also be automatically deducted monthly from a checking or savings account. Automatic Payment forms will be available at the Open House.

If you are unable to attend, please contact Kristen at (402) 723-5826 prior to September 11 so that we can arrange an alternate time for sizings and fittings.

Now Enrolling For 2010-2011!

IGNITE! is now enrolling students for our 2010-2011 season, which begins in fall. Registration fee discounts are available to those who enroll prior to May 31, 2010. Early enrollment will reserve your child's spot in one of our fall classes. To enroll, visit our "Forms and Registration" page.

Actual class schedules for 2010-2011 will be determined and distributed to dancers in August. An open house will be held in August or September to allow dancers to order shoes and dance attire and be sizes for their costumes.

We are looking forward to a fun and exciting 2nd season!

2009-2010 Dance Recital Updates

Rehearsal

A full dress rehearsal will be held on Saturday, May 1st from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the Heartland School theater.
We will start promptly at 9:00 am. Dancers need to arrive on-time dressed in costume with all props, shoes, etc.

We will run through our full show at least twice.
Please bring along a change of clothes, a labeled hanger (for costume), and a grocery sack (for props/shoes). At the end of rehearsal, we will leave all costumes/props hanging in the gym so they are ready for recital on Sunday.
Parents are welcome to bring cameras to rehearsal. This will be your chance to get an up-close shot of your child performing on stage. Flash photography will not be allowed during recital due to professional videography rules.

Recital

Recital will be held on Sunday, May 2^nd at 3:00 pm. The show will be approximately 45 min.
Admission will be $3.00 at the door. Dancers and children five and under will be admitted free.
Please arrive by 2:30 pm so dancers have time to change in the gym. Older girls (4^th+) will be in the lockeroom.
The recital will end with our finale and bowing where all dancers will begin on stage and end on the theater floor (in front of the stage). You may pick up your children there at the end of the show.

Important Reminders

Label Items: You must label ALL dance shoes, costumes, tights, and props (poms, shoe/hair bows, etc). We don’t want to mix-up items back stage.
No Underwear: For the pre-school and K-1 classes, underwear should not be worn under tights to prevent them from showing through their leotards. (Older classes wearing pants/shorts over their tights can wear underwear).
Stage Make-up: A dancer’s face is often washed out by the stage lighting. It is appropriate for dancers to wear make-up during recital performances. Please arrive with make-up already applied.

Recital DVDs – Last Chance for Pre-Order Rate!

Mr. Video Productions will be professionally recording our recital performance. These recital DVDs will be available for purchase and will include opening titles before each routine. Advance copies are on sale for $30.
To purchase, log onto www.mrvideoonline.com and search for “Ignite”. If you prefer to order offline, please call 1-800-MRVIDEO or complete a paper order form (along with a check payable to Mr. Video Productions) and return to Kristen prior to recital.
DVDs can also be purchased after the event at an increased price of $35.

Mr. Video Productions will be professionally recording our 2010 "Fun in the Sun" recital on May 2, 2010. This will allow you to sit back, relax, and enjoy our show! DVDs will have menus for instant access to your dancer's routines, and there will be opening titles before each number. Pre-order your DVDs now at a discounted price of $30. DVDs will be mailed 4-6 weeks after recital.

April 26 Classes

Classes on April 26 will be held at the Heartland School Theater (at your regular class time). This will give the dancers an opportunity to adjust to performing on stage prior to dress rehearsal.

Practice videos have been posted on our IGNITE! Facebook page. Please encourage your children to use these videos to practice their routines at home so that they are prepared for their recital performances.
